Conflict 2012: Game 3

Game 3 I sadly have no pictures again. Usually I feel that I have plenty of time to snap shots between turns. I dont know what it was about Conflict this year, but I felt rushed. It may have been the unfamiliarity I have with Tyranids. Unlike my drop pod Marines, which I know inside and out, or my Dark Eldar which are more fire and forget the Tyranid list I was playing required a lot more thought power.

Templecon is a Week away

We're back....

Conflict 2012: Games 1 and 2

Game 1 I played Matthew Bennet and his wonderfully eclectic Grey Knights army. He had Draigo, and only one Dreadnought, he had a few strike squads, a Purgation squad, Paladins and a Storm Raven.

We were playing 3 objectives.

Conflict 2012

The Conflict Gt has a special place in my heart. Two years ago it was our groups first major foray into a large Grand Tournament. So this year was my third straight year attending. The first year I took 7th with my Space Marine Salamanders, and last year finished 4th with those marines again.

But this year I took a whole new tool to the game. Not my awesome Dark Eldar but a totally new project that from Christmas to mid January I toiled over on my painting table. Tyranids!!

Tyranids are kinda low on the power totem pole, with most people dismissing them totally in events that include Grey Knights and Dark Eldar. But they have some fun things and some really cool models.

So I went into list design with two things in mind. One I had 22 Space hulk Genestealers so would like to use most of those to keep costs down to an extent(lol). And Two I think that Lictors have some of the coolest models in the range and would love to use as many of them as possible.

With those things in mind it starts to become pretty obvious that Im heading to another mainly reserves based army. Both my Drop Pod Marines, and my Webway Dark Eldar are built this way, and I think the style is something I really gravitate towards.

To go along with this I looked into Mawlocs. What I see with people taking Trygons is that they pop up but are run away from and/or shot down before they can kill even a single model. Mawlocs arent nearly as good in a straight fight as Trygons, but their ability to hit people with a template when they arrive, and burrow back to safety, combined with hit and run helps keep them alive longer.

Early playtesting had me running loads of regular stealers, but I kept finding them dying but Broodlords are great. I adjusted to change some of the regular stealers to Ymgarls, and cut down to small Broodlord led squads of troop stealers.

The Hq slot was another struggle. Really I almost wouldnt want one at all. But since I had to take one the Hive Tyrant ended up being my choice. He is super expensive especially once you add wings, and hive commander. And two devourers. But he fits well with the reserve style.

Anyway here is the list. Im going to follow it up with some rough reports... didnt take too many pictures. I ended up the event 7th overall, 5th in battle points with 3 wins, 2 draws, and a loss.
