Conflict 2011

So just sent in my payment for Conflict happening in New York in mid January. http://www.theconflictgt.com/

1750 loses some of the leeway to have all the Ironclads and bells and whistles I really like at both 1850 and 2000. So in cost cutting measures my early feeling is to try out something that has been sitting on my shelf for a while, a thunderfire cannon.

This goes into my idea that if youre going to play regular marines, which I guess Salamanders fall under sadly, you might as well be using the things that none of the other marine chapters out there get. So far my list has been using the LAnd Speeder Storm, and of course many of the burly Ironclad Dreadnoughts, and Vulkan, and now one of the last puzzle pieces the thunderfire cannon will join that ensemble.

Without much more ado here is my list that Im pretty positive Im going to take:

Vulkan - 190

Master of the Forge - combi melta - 110

Tactical Squad(5 marines) - combi melta, rhino - 135

Scout Squad(5 scouts) - combi melta - 85

Ironclad Dreadnought - melta gun, heavy flamer, 2 hunter killer missiles, drop pod - 200

Ironclad Dreadnought - melta gun, heavy flamer, 2 hunter killer missiles, drop pod - 200

Ironclad Dreadnought - heavy flamer, heavy flamer, 2 hunter killer missiles, drop pod - 205

Dreadnought - assault cannon, twin linked auto cannon, drop pod - 160

Dreadnought - assault cannon, twin linked auto cannon, drop pod - 160

Thunderfire cannon - 100

Land Speeder Storm - multimelta - 65

Land Speeder - multimelta, heavy flamer - 70

Land Speeder - multimelta, heavy flamer - 70

My only qualms with this list is that I have very few troops. Now normally I don't care, I've run this many troops just fine at other events, but last year Conflict had some wacky missions that leaned heavily towards having more troops or things like getting troops all the way across the board or what not. But I figure oh well wacky missions are wacky missions Ill just have to work harder.

  1. Why the Thunderfire? Looks out of place.

  2. To nuke exposed troops I guess. To help out with horde armies. Mainly because I had 105 pts and didnt feel that a regular dreadnought really helped more than it. Another daka dread would have been nice but needed to give the tac squad some punch with the combi melta for them and the master.

At 1850 the first thing I would do is make that thunderfire another Ironclad. But at 1750 it gives me the ability to drop some templates on guys sitting in their chimera wrecks.

Also it has some nice abilities to mess with people. Drop the tremor shells on bikes and they cant turbo boost, buying you some extra turns. Drop the same thing on a vehicle wall and hope it scatters to catch a few and they get scared to roll 1's and immobilize themselves.

Also Ive been itching to paint mine, and use it as I said its something all those new marines dont get... there must be some reason they dont get it... lol probably not but oh well should have some fun with it. Maybe it will draw fire while it sits in 3+ cover.
